Behavior-aware service fulfillment encompasses the application of behavior-aware computing principles and methods to the fulfillment of enterprise services involving shared infrastructure components such as servers, networks, and storage. Resilience demands for situational awareness and adaptiveness during execution lead to a natural fit for behavior-aware architectural patterns. Three categories are proposed: (i) proactive fulfillment based on the active monitoring of prerequisite conditions; (ii) reactive fulfillment responding to perturbation events; and (iii) predictive fulfillment extending anticipate-react cycles through prediction. For each type of fulfillment, a decision workflow is outlined, and the foundational role of events as triggers for dynamic orchestration is emphasized. The patterns emerge from the separation of concerns between sensing, reasoning, and actuation, and from the introduction of domain-specific decision logic that bridges control- and data-planes.
The behavior-aware approach is supported by careful data preparation and timely behavioral modeling. The definition of data schemas and feature extraction for the detection of potential preparation or perturbation events is presented, along with a behavioral ontology for supervisory and control-level modeling of posterior responses. Requirements for data quality, latency, and timeliness are articulated, together with additional conditions for the successful and reliable execution of behavior-aware service fulfillment.
